How to catch up
How do I catch up on the awestruck wonder of Budapest in late May? It has been completely outstanding. The views, the scenery, the massive buildings, the castle, the basilisks, the tram system, the perfect weather, the stolen moments, the hidden trails, the multitude of statues, and the list goes on.
People here are not shy. They hold hands a lot. They hug a lot. And unlike the U.S. there is a lot of kissing. The kind where you want the couple next to you to be quiet, and get a room. Because there is a cool statue behind them you want to look at, but they are busy smacking lips and playing tongue hockey.
Day One wasn't very exciting, I was so tired. I took a nap, then we navigated the tram system to get a mall. They have impressive malls here, maybe because the winters are so harsh? So they have a huge bio-dome to go to, maybe? That's my best guess. So the first day wasn't actually a big deal. But the next day we found our way to the Danube river, and it took my breath away. So did the castle complex that went on for a few blocks, and was mostly emptied of tourists. High up on a castle hill looking over the city at sunset. Wowsa. Couldn't improve on that! We took a gazillion pictures.
Day Three we found a thermal mineral spa with pools of stinky and healthy water, chock full of the good chemicals. It was pure magic. Completely amazing. One small pool had 4 large columns in it with a raised ceiling, and a black (marble?) statue of a woman on one end. The other end had a lion head with water pouring out of it's mouth. There was a sign that politely said: Silence is healing. I wish more people had read it, but I still had a very zen experience. Then we walked one bridge across the Danube, and walked another one back. And hiked the biggest hill there was. On a hidden path of enlightenment, or so I call it.
I like Budapest because you can go from a crowded tram to a quiet path in 10 minutes.
I would write more, but I have to go pack for Macedonia. We are flying out to Skopje in the morning.
Today was another day at the spa! It's so glorious in there. I thought I was relaxed in Samara, Costa Rica. But the spa is the epitome of relaxed. Man oh man, I have a new Happy Place to go to when I need to just close my eyes and relax for a second.
After the second time at the spa we rode the tram back to Buda, then back to Pest. Whew. I have to pack, don't I? Ok, those are some of the highlights. This place is truly inspirational!!!
