Travel Bug. "Now where was I?!"
Good morning! What did I post about last? I can't remember. We arrived in the United States of America on the last day of August. Three weeks ago. Since arriving in Las Vegas, we have been to Cedar City, Apple Valley, Topock, and back to Apple Valley. And today we are heading back to Cedar City. Which means we went from Nevada to Utah, to California to Arizona, back to California and now back to Utah. Whew. Then the plan is to come back to California in a week. Then after a few days start the drive to Seattle - we have to be there by the first week of October, taking the longer route along the Pacific coast, including Oregon. Another long drive, but a scenic one.
Between Southern Utah and Southern California the scenery doesn't change a whole lot. It's all desert for the most part. My two favorite views are the amazing sunsets, and the Virgin River gorge between Las Vegas and St. George. You can only catch a few brief glimpses of the river, but the canyons are crazy cool. It's awful to drive - so windy and with a middle barricade. However as a passenger I love the views.
Seeing family is the best! It makes it harder to be so far from my Mom, but I'm grateful to the person who invented video chatting. All of the desert and cacti and Joshua trees and brown hills are familiar to me. 20 years in Las Vegas. 1 year in Apple Valley. 3 years in Cedar City. I really can't wait for the change of nature's design when we head north. Not just because it's totally different, but because it's similar to what I saw growing up. I remember when I first came to Las Vegas at 18 years old. I thought every single brown dirt lot was under construction. It practically was, but I wasn't used to the idea that everything there is just like that. I wasn't used to stepping outside and feeling the moisture get sucked out of my skin. Odd sensation.
It has been super warm with a late summer so far, the first cold mornings have started here in Apple Valley. The first freeze for Cedar City is supposed to be this weekend. Brrr. In the last year I've only been cold for one month. Going from Costa Rica to Denmark in April. The next month in Europe was all kinds of cold. I have pictures in Poland with half my face hidden because I had a hat and scarf that I used to cover even my mouth and nose. I'll have to get used to being cold again. I dug out my cute long socks, so I'm ready!
I love road trips. The longest I ever did was 17 days. Going in a small car from Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada to Miami in Florida on the east coast. Within a year it was another long haul from Alabama to Arizona.
