Bits and pieces. Countdowning.
April 1st
2017 to April 1st 2018
Books that have changed my life this year:
The Emotion Code by Dr. Nelson
Five Lives Remembered by Dolores Cannon
The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron
The Year of the Frog by Julie
Jesus the Christ by Talmage
My Goddess Zoendah (which I am writing)
A year summary? I’ve been from Central America to Europe to
Central America to North America to Central America and I just bought tickets
to East Asia.
I went from Costa Rica to California in the US. From
California to Canada to Denmark, Copenhagen. I went from Denmark through Sweden
to Poland. Walked a few steps into Germany. Traveled through parts of Poland.
Flew to Budapest in Hungary, stayed for a few days before completing my trip to
Skopje in Macedonia. A day trip into Serbia by taxi. On the way out of Europe I
spent a few days in London, England. And Vancouver, British Columbia. Then to
California for a week, and off back to Costa Rica, to Samara on the Pacific
Coast again. Two months later flying back to Las Vegas, Nevada in North
America. Four months touring the western United States by car. Then back to
Samara in Central America for four months. Planning to leave for Borneo this
month. The Malaysia part of the big island.
Whew. Where do I live?? I don’t know. The tickets to Borneo
are for three months. Do I have any clue what I am doing after that? Nope. I
say this all as Me, and I. But it’s all We and Us. I did none of this alone.
Now is the countdown. 15 days to go and then it’s DAY 1
again. DAY 1 of travel. To Houston in Texas, in the U.S. Then fly to Hong Kong.
That sounds too amazing to be true. Then to Singapore in Malaysia. Then to
Kuching, the capital of the state of Sarawak in Malaysia on the island of
Borneo. Now is the countdown. 3 Mondays and then we leave. Now it’s about not
just packing my underwear, it’s about what I have left to pack into the last
days on a mountain in western Costa Rica. The last 2 weeks are the last 14
days. Time didn’t mean as much when I didn’t know what I was doing next. Time
is so much more precious now.
I’m going from a latitude of 11 degrees from the equator to
straddling the equator. From hot to hot. From jungle to jungle. There are so
many other unknowns though! And I’ve been trying to process it for 5 days now.
I was just getting used to the idea that Ron and I were abnormal to the point of
traipsing to Central America. It made sense, my own mother lives here. But East
Asia?? That’s a whole new level of foreign.
April 4th
So I had the strangest coincidence
happen last night. I was thinking about going through Jeanette’s personal
library to see if she had any books about East Asia and I remember something. I
have a book called Southeast Asia on a Shoestring. And the book was here, I had
already placed it on the bookshelf at Jeanette’s place. Crazy, right? It was
given to me four months ago when I was in Seattle. I was helping Deann tidy up
her house. I was only over there 2-3 times. I saw this book and I told her that
Ron would love that book. She said I should have it. I not only brought it to
Costa Rica, I brought it up here to Huacas. And promptly forgot about it.
The book says there are 20 Top
Experiences in Southeast Asia. The city where we are going is number 11. It
says for Kuching in Malaysia: Borneo’s most sophisticated and stylish city
brings together an atmospheric old town, a romantic waterfront, fine cuisine
for all budgets and chic nightspots. But the biggest draw is what’s nearby:
some of Sarawak’s finest natural sights that are easy to visit on day trips.
You can spot orang-utans or search out a giant Rafflesia flower in the morning,
or look for proboscis monkeys and wild crocs on a sundown cruise in the South
China Sea. Finish off the evening dining on fresh seafood or crunchy midin
(jungle fern tips).food
The book says Malaysia is a fusion
of different cultures, and it is one of the safest, most stable and manageable
in Southeast Asia.
Ten Days until Day 1 of travel.
It’s funny how finding a good pair of shoes can make me so happy. I feel more
officially ready. Pink travel shoes can make things so much more fun. I am
packed, having chosen the things from up here in the mountains. But there are
more things down by the beach, at my Mom’s house. I am ready to travel light.
The first day after we get there my job is to see how people dress, and then
find a way to match. Loose clothes that go to the elbow and past the knee is
different for me. I hear my lightweight exercise pants will be good, if I can
find some really long shirts to go with them. I can’t believe we only have half
day in the U.S. before heading straight to Southeast Asia. That’s so weird to
me. I have officially leveled up in travel adventures. And not for two weeks,
but for three whole months.
Expect
Miracles. That might be the title for my book. My own affirmation book. I could
write that this year.
My
life changed when I chose to expect miracles. I expected miracles when I started
to be aware, because when I saw more miracles, they were easier to expect.
Travel
Blog star date 4.13.18 The countdown has begun. The blast off date is approaching
fast. It’s the best kind of nerves. I feel alert and excited. I have talked
myself into having the time of my life. I invented some new affirmations to
help me with the parts that worry me the most.
“I
can master the power nap”
“Travel
is the most fun kind of education”
“Bugs
avoid me”
“All
the best of Southeast Asia is waiting for me”
“I
can understand new situations quickly”
“I
feel safe and protected at all times”
“I
am ready for anything”
