Kuching, Malaysia, Island of Borneo

Here are some pictures from my day. We have been walking an average of five miles a day. Why haven't I lost at least ten pounds by now?
Yesterday was my not so brilliant idea of going across the river to eat some breakfast. It turned out that every single business was not open yet, except two stores selling fish. Even at 9am. Then we wandered in another direction, ever hopeful for a restaurant. No luck. But we did find a peaceful place with just us and trees and grass. And rain. We found a fantastic looking botanical garden, which will be a great adventure when we have more time and less hunger. We walked past an old fort, a big golden building, the garden, some government buildings that were not impressive, then past the Astana palace and an orchid garden. We had to walk the bridge back, and now it's 11:30am and no breakfast yet. But do we eat at the first available place? Nope. We catch a bus to the brand new mega mall. Then we finally eat. At least the weather was perfect. Lots of clouds, minimal rain. Then we head back to the room, and we go to a movie. It was $3 a ticket to see the latest Avengers movie. Which was like a Cabbage Patch Kid doll. So ugly it was cute. So ridiculous that it was an entertaining epic fail. It was like my cooking - I take all these good ingredients with great potential and then make something that tastes pretty awful.

Cloudy day, which is perfect. Short boats, this time it was romantic, just Ron and I. That's the captain right there.

Roaming while looking for food. Feels like the jungle.

Very crazy cool trees.

Short colorful little boats.

Busy making new friends.

Pictures from the other day at a park. There was a hidden cemetery too, but it was fenced in.

This is a memorial park. The Island of Borneo was invaded by the Japanese during World War II.

New crazy Malaysian pants that I bought, I swear the white parts glow in the dark without a black light.

Making new friends. This is the third time I've had women ask me to take their picture with them.
So I took a picture too!

My husband ordered this by a picture with no words. Later on I found this picture with the words. He shared his sweet pork meat with me. Then I found out it was intestines. I owe him for that one! (I'll keep you posted for the payback)
