Do you really want to know how crazy?
We travel like crazy. As in chaotic and sporadic. As in, on a wing and a prayer.
We decided to take a trip, to make some more memories, to see some more of the world. We looked at different countries and many options. The information stream and the appealing options were multiplying every day. I finally told Ron to pick a place. To surprise me. He picked Southeast Asia. I had previously said Malaysia looked good, and he picked the part of Malaysia on the island of Borneo. Tickets bought, and we were leaving in 3 weeks! And we were staying for 3 months!
We arrived on the island of Borneo (planned to stay there for 4 weeks), and after the first week we decided to go to the island of Java next, Indonesia. We bought those tickets and booked that hotel. We planned for 10 days. Once we arrived, we started talking seriously about where to go next. We wanted to go to Cambodia, and it required a layover in Kuala Lumpur. So we said: hey, how about a 6 day layover? We bought those tickets and booked the hotel. We knew what we wanted to do, but we didn't buy the tickets to Cambodia until Kuala Lumpur. Now we are in Sihanoukville in Cambodia and while here we got the visas for Vietnam. When those were official, then we bought the plane tickets and hotel. We also decided to stay in 2 places in Cambodia. This place is supposed to have nice beaches. I haven't seen any yet, but we are switching hotels tomorrow, so maybe it will be good.
And it was good to switch hotels.
Now we are in Siem Reap, and leave for Vietnam in 2 days. We have a hotel in Hanoi for 2 weeks. Then we still have 2 unplanned weeks waiting for us. We are talking about Nha Trang after that, but we'll see.
Some people ask us how we do it. Some people ask us why we do it. It feels like sometimes the answers change, too. "We each have to find our own way". This sentence has never felt so true.
I will never look at a map of the world the same way.
We flew from Texas to Hong Kong. From Hong Kong to Singapore. From Singapore to the island of Borneo. From there to the island of Java. From there to the capital of Malaysia. Currently in Cambodia. Soon in Vietnam. Then...?
