Liked by 30 people every hour
I belong to a group on Facebook with many thousands of members, I think someone said 26,000 members. It's called Love Your Life in 30 Days. It's a neat free program about making good changes. I love these kinds of pictures and memes. I have posted many with this group. I think it's interesting that this one has been by far the most popular. It's at 182 likes in 6 hours.
It makes me wonder what is so special about this one, that it seems to resonate with so many. I like it for many reasons. I like that it's taking a plain old rock, and turning it into something inspirational. It's not even a special shaped rock! It's nice printing, but not perfect. It looks like it's from the heart.
The message really truly struck me too. I'm a huge advocate of perspective. I had this discussion with some friends recently. I have my own nutshell on Life. I say - Life is about 2 things. Emotions and perspective. Because these two are the basis of everything. I believe that if you don't let your perspective affect your emotions, you are going to have a hard time because your emotions will then be affecting your perspective.
I see so many people who talk about fighting their depression and fighting their anger issues. That sounds so hard. I much prefer to work on my perspective, and avoid too much of miserable emotion. It's part of my love of Self Talk, and Positive Affirmations.
I like this quote on a rock, it's a new favorite. I like giving purpose to my pain. Pain is everywhere! No one achieves greatness without it. Great athletes, great warriors, great leaders, and the list goes on. Yet they keep going. The firemen, the parents, the musicians. They work through the pain. They love their jobs, despite what it demands from them. They dedicate their pain so they can gain.
If I had the skill, I would find a hundred rocks and give them away in my front yard. How cool would that be? Maybe if I had the right pen. Maybe I will still do it.
What if I took every single thing that ever happens to me, and I learned to love it for what it teaches me? Wouldn't Life be so amazing then? I've done some tough things. My favorite one to talk about is working with people with such high anxiety and aggression that they had their own behavior plans. Often these plans also included what kind of restraints can be used, and outlines self harm supervision guidelines. I frequently heard people say: I could never do what you do! But that job prepared me for my dream job. I only left that dream job because I moved to Costa Rica, my dream jungle beach village. And who knows what is next??
That job was challenging. The amount of things that I gained truly far outweighed the difficulties. The training and experience was simply amazing. The company had a theme: Making a difference daily. To start working there I had everything from CPR and first aid training, to restraint training and a human rights class. I learned more than ever the value of person's soul. The value of forgiving, and the value to keep trying. Those clients gave me so much! They are so dear to my heart. I wish I could make 100 of these rocks to give to every staff that I came across. Every client could have the quote on a piece of paper (harder to chuck at someone).
I used to train the new staff and give them a mini rubber duck. I would tell them - when you feel like quacking up, remember this saying: Water off a duck's back. When I was younger my brother would help me with my stress by saying: Suzette, let it be like water off a duck's back. Let it just slide right off of you.
Ducks' feathers are waterproof. There is a special gland that produces oil near the tail that spreads and covers the outer coat of feathers. Beneath this waterproof layer are fluffy and soft feathers to keep the duck warm. There is my science fact of the day.
I also told the new staff: with this job you will learn a few things about yourself. It's up to you if you like what you learn. But if you let it be, it will the best job you've ever had. I told them that we do the impossible every day, so get used to it. I truly believed that. It changed everything, the perspective was so completely amazing.
