Suerte. That means Luck.

My Mom keeps telling me how lucky I am. All of life is about the timing, isn't it? We were in the big town on a shopping trip, and there was a bike race going one, they had streets shut down. Whatever. But we happened to be on a street, looking in the right direction, and saw what was probably the last leg of the race, with all of the bikes whizzing by. It was a fun reminder of the Tour of Utah in August. We went to see the main area of people, we wanted to see these tall dancing people. Were they on stilts? We never found out. But in the middle of the busy little park in downtown Nicoya there was a gigantic iguana. His body was at least as long from my finger tips to my elbow. He just sat there and munched on grass while we took pictures, without a care in the world. Very rare. I saw a bird the other day, and Mom said I was lucky, she hasn't seen one in 9 years. I said: Really? Because it was in a tree outside your front window, I was watching it while doing the dishes. Long-tailed manakins are pretty cool.
December is supposed to be the start of the dry season. Mom hates the dry season, the dry roads kick up a lot of dust. But so far, there has been plenty of rain, including yesterday. Right up until the sunset, which is why we decided to go to the beach. And watch a dog become a part of the circle of life. What are the chances that we would be on that beach, at that time, and notice the thing moving in the water? I'm just glad I stopped video taping when I did.
Samara is a good place to have good luck. I walked past a vacant lot with a small cement slab, maybe 5 feet by 7 feet. On that slab were 5 large lizards. How crazy cool. They like the heat radiating off the cement, I guess. You could tell it was a larger decked out male and 4 females.
The luck is not always completely favorable, though. We have a skunk problem. Oh, says Mom, we've never had a skunk problem before, in the 10 years I've lived here. Well. You do now! Twice this week alone, and right before bed. I have to go to bed tired, or else I won't sleep. You laugh, but several times a stench has woken us up in the middle of sleep. Our room has a huge window, at least 5 feet by 6 feet, and it's always open. Skunk smell can really mess with your dreams.
I believe in creating your own luck, so we will see just how awesome things can get.
This morning was another lovely day, the sun is out, a lone pig is wandering the streets, and the howler monkeys are having a great time. I think they are 3 times louder than the barking dogs. And they are right across the street again. The monkeys weren't howling all morning, although I wouldn't complain. Their riot ended after about 15 minutes.

This is what a banana tree looks like. Wait, maybe it's a quadrato tree. Which is close to a banana.

Cool plants, cool froggy hanging out for the afternoon.

Long-tailed manakin

A very very big iguana, in all it's glory. It had orange feet. Weird.
